Samsung has confirmed that its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S II, will launch in the UK on May 1.
The successor to the hugely popular Galaxy S mobile was originally scheduled for release at the end of March, but Samsung has used the extra time to give the handset a more powerful 1.2GHz dual-core processor, instead of the 1GHz chip previously promised.
The price of the Galaxy S II has also been, with online retailer Play.com offering the smartphone for £499.99, SIM free a full £100 less than the asking price six weeks ago. The price tags on the Expansys website and Unlocked-Mobiles.com have also dropped below the £500 mark.
The Samsung Galaxy S II is slimmer, lighter and faster than its predecessor, measuring a mere 8.49mm thick and weighing just 116g.
It boasts a stunning 4.27-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera capable of recording full HD (1080p) video and runs Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
The phone also features a host of social networking features and new gaming and music 'hubs' to keep users entertained.
