Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Huawei has announced it is to launch its first own-brand handset in the UK in September.
Up till now, the company has only built white-label smartphones for other companies to rebrand. But from next month, mobile users will be able to buy its debut Android handset - the entry-level Blaze.
Mark Mitchinson, Huawei's UK executive vice president, said: "We're trying to establish the brand, almost from scratch."
He added that the company is targeting a 4 to 5 per cent share of the UK mobile phone market within 12 months.
According to reports, the Huawei Blaze will run Android Gingerbread 2.3 and come equipped with a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 3.2MP camera, 256MB of RAM and 512MB of onboard storage. The mobile is likely to compete with lower-end smartphones selling for around the £100 mark sim free .
Huawei is also planning to launch the 3D-interfaced Vision smartphone and an own-brand tablet device – the MediaPad - in the UK later this year.
