Nokia Lumia Sales Disappointing

UK sales of Nokia’s Lumia smartphone are not performing as well as the Finnish company had hoped, according to new data fro research firm Gfk.

The iPhone 4S was Britain's biggest selling mobile phone in the four weeks to December 9, accounting for almost a quarter of all handset sales over the month, followed by Samsung's Galaxy S II smartphone .

However, Nokia’s first Windows Phone device, the Lumia, failed to make the top 10 phones sold in the UK during the four-week period, which included its first weeks on sale.

In fact, the Lumia barely outsold Nokia’s basic "Touch and Type" mobiles, despite its launch being accompanied by a £20m advertising campaign.

GfK, which monitors sales through mobile network operators, reported that iPhone models made up five of the top 15 selling handsets in the month to December 9.

There was also some good news for troubled-manufacturer RIM, with three variants of its BlackBerry Curve mobile making the top 10.
