Lenovo And Motorola To Manufacture Intel Smartphones

Motorola and Lenovo have confirmed they are working with Intel to produce the chipmaker’s first mobile phones.

The new Android smartphones will be based on Intel’s new "Medfield" Atom processors, which according to the company offer low power requirements and efficiency levels to compete with rival Arm processors, which power many of the world’s most popular mobiles .

Speaking at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Lenovo said it will launch a new handset based on Medfield in China in the second quarter of this year.

The Lenovo K800 will feature the Intel Atom Z2460 processor running at 1.6GHz, along with a 4-inch LCD high-res display and front and rear-facing cameras – the latter being an 8 megapixel snapper capable of capturing 15 images per second.

Motorola will gain regulatory approval in the summer and launch a number of Intel Atom-powered Android devices in the following months across Europe and America.
