New research has revealed that selling old unwanted mobile phones to specialist companies could generate as much as £768 per UK household.
A survey by Sell My Mobile, the UK’s leading phone recycling price comparison site, found that more than eight in ten UK households have at least one old mobile handset stashed away in their homes that could have a strong resale value.
The research suggests that whilst every phone has a resale value, modern smartphones such as the iPhone are most highly valued devices.
According to Sell My Mobile, the most valuable used phone this year was Apple’s iPhone 4, generating an average price of £390 from phone recycling companies. By contrast, Sony Ericsson’s Z300 handset had an average resale value of just £1.
“Our research throws up some very interesting insights in to consumer buying behaviour, particularly in reference to smartphone recycling,” said Keir McConomy, managing director of SellMyMobile.com.
“It is apparent that the majority of UK customers aren’t aware of how much an old mobile phone can fetch in value, and since so many families are tightening their belts for Christmas this year, it’s a great way to tick some money off the present list.”
