We have just discovered that British engineers are planning to send a mobile phone into orbit.
The British team at Surrey Satellite Technology Limited, or SSTL for short, based in Guildford are wishing to see if the technology within today’s phones are functionable in the most challenging environment known.
The phone they are wishing to send into space will run Google’s Android operating system but the exact make and model of the car was not yet been disclosed.
This is by far the first time that a mobile phone has been flown into space. However, mobile phones have been flown on high altitude ballons before but never orbitted several hundred kilometres above the planet.
