Samsung Galaxy S range reaches shipment milestone

The Galaxy S mobile phone range from Samsung has reached a milestone with regard to unit shipments.
According to the manufacturer, global channel sales of the collection have now passed the 100 million mark.
This figure represents the number of devices sold to retailers as opposed to consumers – and the statistics showed the release of successive handsets in the portfolio played a part in helping to boost the popularity of the Galaxy S phone.
The series was first released less than three years ago and includes the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and Galaxy S III smartphones.
Samsung revealed that since their launch, 25 million Galaxy S, 40 million Galaxy S II and 41 million Galaxy S III’s have been sold around the world.
Indeed, 20 million of the Galaxy S III models – released in March 2012 – were sold globally within the first 100 days of its introduction.
The news comes after recent research from IHS iSuppli showed Samsung overtook Nokia in mobile phone sales last year, in addition to selling more smartphones than Apple during the 12-month period.
