Mobile operator Three has teamed up with Opera Mobile to offer its UK customers faster mobile browsing with the Opera Mini web browser .
Three customers can download the Opera Mini on their mobile phones from the Three UK website (Three.co.uk) free of charge.
The Opera Mini browser, which supports more than 3,000 handsets, speeds up page loading by compressing data by up to 90 percent. Once this data has been compacted at the server the content is then sent to the phone . While this allows faster transfers it also reduces the cost of data charges.
Charlotte Blanchard, Director of Products and Services at Three UK, said: “We want to bring the benefits of a great mobile Internet experience to all handsets, whether smartphones or not. Opera Mini helps us extend that experience to an even greater range of devices.”
Last week Opera released its mobile web browser as a download option for the new Galaxy S smartphone .
Commenting on the partnership, Opera Software’s CEO Lars Boilesin said: “We are very glad to provide the best mobile internet experience to Samsung’s Galaxy S users and Opera fans in selected markets. We also hope that global fans can get the chance in the near future.”
