Orange And Samsung To Launch Second Contactless Payment Mobile

Orange has announced it will add a new NFC-enabled mobile handset to its line-up in the coming weeks.
The Samsung Wave 578 will be only the second handset to be compatible with the Orange and Barclaycard’s Quick Tap near field communication (NFC) payment system, which allows Barclaycard, Barclays debit card and Orange credit card users to pay for goods at participating retailers by simply swiping their handset across contactless payment terminals.
The Wave 578 follows on from the Samsung Tocco smartphone released earlier this year, which was the first to feature Quick Tap technology.
As part of the launch, Orange is offering a £10 incentive to anyone who buys the phone and 10 per cent cashback on all Quick Tap purchases made in the first 90 days.
Simeon Bird, Director of Propositions at Orange, said: “We’re pleased to be offering the Samsung Wave 578, which is the next in a range of Quick Tap enabled mobiles we have planned for the UK.”
“Only on Orange will customers benefit from the greater convenience and control over their high street purchases which Quick Tap provides them with.”
David Chan, CEO of Barclaycard Consumer Europe, said: “At the launch of our first contactless handset earlier this year we promised we would roll out greater choice in the ‘Quick Tap’ range and I’m pleased to be able to announce the first of these new handsets today.”
The Wave, which uses Samsung’s own Bada operating system and comes with a 3.2 inch screen and a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, will be available on PAYG and certain Orange price plans in the next few weeks.
