Samsung becomes top mobile phone brand

Samsung has become the number one mobile phone brand after displacing Nokia at the top of the tree.
This is according to the IHS iSuppli Mobile and Wireless Communications Service at IHS, which found the manufacturer has moved to first position in the cellphone brand list while also taking a decisive lead in the smartphone market ahead of Apple .
It was shown that Samsung should account for 29 per cent of worldwide shipments by the end of this year – markedly higher than the 24 per cent recorded 12 months earlier.
In contrast, Nokia’s share in the sector has dipped from 30 per cent to 24 per cent over this time.
The findings also showed shipments of smartphones are likely to climb by 35.5 per cent this year and Wayne Lam, senior analyst for wireless communications at IHS, said smartphones represent the fastest-growing segment of the mobile phone market at present.
Mr Lam stated: “Samsung’s successes and Nokia’s struggles in the cellphone market this year were determined entirely by the two companies’ divergent fortunes in the smartphone sector.”
