
Nokia has confirmed the UK launch date and price of its long-awaited next generation smartphone, the Nokia N8.
The highly touted handset will go on sale in the last week of September via Nokia’s online store and will cost £429 SIM free .
All of the UK’s major mobile network operators will carry the N8 from October 1, along with high street retailers Phones4u and Carphone Warehouse . According to reports, the smartphone will be offered free on £35 a month tariffs.
The N8 is the first to run the new version of the Symbian operating system (Symbian ^3), which allows personalised home screens and multitasking of apps.
In also comes with an AMOLED touchscreen display, a 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and HD video recording capability, an HDMI interface for connection to a TV, an MP3 player and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound.
Nokia is expected to release details of its highly anticipated N9 handset – the first to be based on the newer MeeGo operating system – next week at the company’s World Summit in London.
