Mobile network operator Three has announced that its customers can now access the popular social networking site Facebook for free.
Three has signed a deal to offer mobile users free access to 0.facebook.com, which is a simplified version of the website that has been optimised for speed and performance.
The site does not feature any graphics or photos, making it faster to access on a mobile phone, but does include all the normal Facebook features such as status updates and friends list.
Users can still view photos by linking to the normal Facebook site, however this will incur standard data charges.
“At Three, we want to make the mobile internet easy and affordable for everyone,” the company said in a press release.
“We are delighted to work with Facebook to bring one of the most visited mobile websites to our customers for free.”
“We have the only 100 per cent 3G network in the UK so that we can provide our customers with the very best experience of the mobile internet .”
Henri Moissinac, head of Facebook’s mobile business, said: “We are always looking to work with innovative companies to provide simple and fast mobile access to Facebook across the world.”
“Thanks to our collaboration with Three, people will be able to stay connected to their friends on Facebook while they are on the go – all completely free.”
