Apple has unveiled its latest mobile phone release – the iPhone 5.
The brand noted the device is the thinnest and lightest such handset to date, while also boasting a new four-inch retina display.
Faster performance is guaranteed through the new Apple A6 chip, while consumers are likely to enjoy the phone’s ultrafast wireless technology and improved battery life.
Philip Schiller senior vice-president of worldwide marketing at Apple, described the iPhone 5 as the best-looking consumer device ever produced by the manufacturer.
Mr Schiller stated: “We’ve packed an amazing amount of innovation and advanced technology into a thin and light, jewel-like device.”
The phone also boasts the iOS 6 mobile operating system, which includes more than 200 new features such as Passbook organisation, Facebook integration and the new Maps app.
Its 7.6 mm anodized aluminium body is 18 per cent thinner and 20 per cent lighter than its predecessor and means the smartphone is the slimmest of its kind in the world.
People will be able to buy the iPhone 5 in either white and silver or black and slate, while it also includes a smaller and more durable connector called Lightning.
