Vodafone has begun accepting preorders for the long-awaited Sony Xperia Z smartphone, which is set to officially launch in the UK at the end of February.
The 4G-enabled handset will be offered for free on the operator’s Red Data contracts starting from £42 per month, with the price plans including unlimited texts and calls and 2GB of mobile internet.
Other pay-monthly contracts asking for £29, £33 and £37 every four weeks are also due to become available, but consumers will need to pay for the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 device outright, which will set them back £149, £99 and £49 respectively.
While the company’s price plans are not as cheap as those of rival telecommunications firm Three, which is going to be offering the same device for free on a £36-per-month tariff, the first 1,000 Xperia Z customers at Vodafone will receive a free pair of headphones worth £299.
Sony unveiled its flagship smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 in Las Vegas last month and the mobile features a five-inch full high-definition display, high dynamic range video and it is water-resistant.
